Half-Mark by K.C Hope ( Aequalitas series #1 )

|

GoodReads Description.

Devyn Black and her six friends were living the normal lives of teens in a small town, just as one would expect. But when Devyn's batty employer has seven surprise guests show up, normality goes out the window.
In a dimension parallel to theirs, Devyn and her friends have been chosen to fight in a war of good versus evil. When Devyn is transformed, she is challenged by a dark figure with a shady past. Can she defeat her challenger with only half the strength she needs? Can her group fight a war in a place they never knew existed for creatures and people they've never met?

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

When I began to read Half-Mark something that I liked was that the protagonist Devyn Black is Bookworm like many of us and is really pasionated about literature. The first 50 pages seemed well but then after the plot felt a little loose and sometimes I get a bit boring. For her first book, KC shows a lot of talent, enthusiasm and ambition since she's only seventeen (my age) and quite a long way to go to keep writing. Some scenes seemed a bit unnecessary for my taste because when I read a book, and most of this genre, I hope I got hooked from beginning to end and this was not the case.

Speaking of the characters, frankly my favorite ones were Devyn and Daemon since they are the most developed.
The other characters are linear and tend to irritate at some point, but they manage. The story itself has great potential and action. The concept of parallel dimensions makes it special and enjoyable. But it led me wainting more. Maybe in a few months I could reread it but not sure yet. ¡ I'm sure she can do it better on her next book !The final was a little disappointed and that's why I give it two stars, expected much more from this book but eventually ended up being just a good read for spend my Sunday.
